DOSE@home | The Editorial
Dosers make beautiful things, there’s no doubt about that. And perhaps the coolest thing about DOSE is that it helps us all, very simply, live more graciously.
Our market gathering is about matching the people who make beautiful things with the people who love them.
DOSE is about knowing what you are putting into your body and bringing into your life.
Herewith, our Dose Market curator and talented interior designer, Mckenzie Maher, styles her home with DOSE, as photographed by our esteemed friend, the photographer Jon Shaft.

GET DOSED | Sunday, June 9!

This is how DOSE’s second birthday is about to play out.
First up, say hello to a slew of fresh hits from nine Dosers who did it at the very first DOSE. Fall in love again with:
Artpentry‘s fresh new collection of everyone’s favorite music-maker, the Gentleman’s Boombox, alongside a picture-perfect surprise straight from Floyd.
Salted Caramel‘s chill chocolate mole pudding pops and watermelon coriander ices.
Artfully Disheveled‘s ever-evolving, and always clever, line of neckwear and pocket squares.
Cities in Dust‘s enticing, always delighting collection of bold jewels for the raddest girls.

Apartment Number 9‘s proprietary mix of the best men’s clothing, the perfect recipe for rocking your summer wardrobe, gentlemen.
Mineralogy‘s earthy sensibility and delicate vintage chains dripping with gorgeous gems.
Truffle Truffle‘s totally tasty, homemade pop tarts: they’re back in caramel apple and strawberry almond cream.
C/FAN‘s new neon tech collection, full of clutch convertible accessories so smart they could land you a promotion.
Great American Cheese Collection‘s lineup of the finest American-made cheeses, each handpicked by Master Fromager, Giles Schnierle.
Oh, and there’s more. There’s always more at DOSE!
The best Dose yet? We think so. Here’s more of what you cannot miss:
Making sure the drinks flow freely (read: free!), this is an all-Chicago hit list of the best beers and spirits around: Goose Island, Begyle Brewing, Letherbee Distillers and Next Star Vodka dole out pure, adult delight.
Fulton Market favorite La Sirena Clandestina will start serving brunch in June, and you get the first hit of Chef John’s new menu at this DOSE. Plus, you’ll want to take home a jar (or 6) of his chimichurri sauce. Can. Not. Miss.
From our favorite bean-fiends, get a piping hot or iced dose of the best cup in Chicago: it’s our favorite, Dark Matter Coffee, at DOSE in June.
Debbie Carlos brings her beautiful things back and doles out her dreamy art works alongside her new line of accoutrement.

For foolproof herbs all summer long, don’t miss the genius DIY kits from Field & Florist.
Bare arms will look mighty fine with stacks and stacks of colorful eye candy from mynOma.
The DOSE bar is back. Don’t miss the opportunity to get your Mayana Chocolate fix — there isn’t a chocolate bar in the world that compares!
Pop into the The Traveling Photo Booth with a friend (or a sexy friend!) and take some very happy photos!
Summertime Chi is breezy in gorgeous, tie-dyed silk tops from Silk Shaman and supreme cotton dresses from Roslyn.
Aframes ups your sunny game with super fresh new frames.
Pleasant House Bakery is happily back at DOSE, serving up a major spread that includes their famous, savory royal pies.
Firecakes dishes out their to-die-for, secret family recipe donuts.
After all that excitement, chill with cold-pressed juices and smoothies from Peeled or calm with an iced hibiscus peach tea from TeaGschwendner.
Take care of dads and grads with Allegory Pens, Stache & Hyde and Teamwork Bags.
Of course, there’s plenty to do for the kids with *play and A Muse in the mix.
And it wouldn’t be a birthday without cake and ice cream: Sweet Cakes and Purple Door Ice Cream (hello, whiskey infusion!) make the perfect pair to help us celebrate our second year.

Birthday Bling!
We’re turning 2 so why wouldn’t we go big on bling?! Meet the 6 gals bringing the sparkle to DOSE on 6/9!
my nOma
founder: Nora Nieves
dose appearances: 2.
why we love her: Engaging, sweet, colorful and with a sly sense of humor: Nieve’s personality comes through in her jewelry, just one facet of her interdisciplinary art practice. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico and an MFA graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Nieves brings together a wide variety of influences and interests in her work, including found materials and industrial hardware.

wanderlustings
founder: Caitlin Peters
dose appearances: April 15, 2012 , November 11, 2012, third time’s a charm!
what’s going down 6/9: Wanderlustings will launch an entirely new collection inspired by designer Caitlin’s love of drawing and her desire to design every component in her pieces. Each design is hand-drawn on metal, chemically etched and oxidized, cut, sanded, sealed and assembled in her apt. Each piece combines art nouveau and brutalist architectural inspiration, and, if you look closely, you’ll also see hidden sci-fi elements and fraternal order symbology.

Cities in Dust
founder: Meghan Lorenz
what’s going down 6/9: Limited edition series of one-of-a-kind dichroic glass, czech glass and bronze rings in addition to the dazzling Spring ’13 collection.
dose appearances: Too many to count! Meghan has been with us since the first Dose on June 5, 2011.
favorite dose moment: I loved the first Dose because I was right next to Floyd with Gentleman’s Boombox. Floyd and I worked at Gap Kids in the Fox Valley Mall together when I was 16. After not seeing each other for 6 years he worked on the display at the Urban Outfitters on Rush where I was an employee. It took us an entire day to recognize each other and after that we kept in touch very loosely. Another 5 years went by and we were randomly neighbors at the first Dose, both doing our own thing! It was pretty cool:)

Dallas Maynard
founder: Dallas Maynard
dose appearances: She’ll be dos for Dose on 6/9. Dallas made her DOSE debut at the February 10, 2013 Market.
what’s goin’ down for 6/9: Dallas will launch her new collection — Empire City — inspired by the shapes of Art Deco architecture, the delicate madness of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and the precision lines found in the illustrations of Bonethrower. Dallas has transcended the boundaries of her comfort zone, replacing her trademark animal bone and earth influences with clean, geometric shapes — don’t worry she’s bringing all the goods, new and old, to this DOSE.

E by Elyse Marie Vieni
founder: Elyse Marie Vieni
dose Appearances: June 9th makes two!
did you know? Every piece in her collection is truly one-of-a-kind — incorporating vintage chains, mixed metals, pearls, and gemstones — guaranteed to make a statement. A personal favorite of DOSE Market founder, April Francis.

Mineralogy
founder: Theresa Cowan
dose appearances: Count ‘em, seven! (Including the first DOSE.)
a piece of history: Theresa first debuted her bracelets at DOSE in July 2011 where she also launched her exclusive-to-Dose line of lake-inspired accessories featuring components like freshwater pearls, shells, Michigan float copper (formed from glacial movements through the Midwest), green chalcedony and Brazilian amazonite.
rock on: Spring ’13 means Lavender lepidolite, Peruvian pyrite, and Brazilian kyanite.

Badda boom, badda bling. See you June 9th! Score your advance $8 tickets here!

Love To Your Mother | The May 12 Dose Market
Moms are the best. And we hooked her up (!) on Sunday, May 12 — Mother’s Day! Here’s how our 50 May Dosers did it:
1. They dosed out the sweet stuff. There was a lot of “yes, please!” a la our little friend below at the GrownUp KidStuff, Veruca Chocolates, Confections Else and Chocolate Twist tables!

2. They kept it clean. North Coast Organics and Purple & Bumble know how to rock it out, au naturel.

3. They made sure we ate breakfast. Mom always said it’s the most important meal of the day, so whether you chose savory cheese grits and a bacon flight from Bakin’ & Eggs or a sweet buttery brioche from Eclair Bakery and Patisserie, no one could say we didn’t listen!

4. They made sure snacks were top-notch. We Rahm-nom-nomed with PoshCorn, sipped on iced coffee horchata from Crop to Cup and hit the homemade jackpot with bread and cheese from Baker & Nosh.

5. They thought about everyone. Ladies, gents and kids alike scored some sweet new accessories from Plank, Robin Richman and Cursive Design.

6. They made our homes more beautiful. SOLO Home Design, August General Store, Up in the Air Somewhere and Alapash Home & Terrariums doled out serious design.

7. They kept pantries stocked. With summer upon us the opportunities to entertain are endless. Shoppers loaded up on the good stuff from Pinch Spice Market, Mess Hall & co., The Scrumptious Pantry, and Rare Bird Preserves.

8. They embraced color. New mama Samantha Sleeper kept the cool factor high with gorgeous prints and vibrant colors — be sure to visit her pop-up shop on Oak St, opening tomorrow, May 17th and running through the 26th.

9. They made sure to showcase family recipes. Shaman by Chilam Balam made many DOSE-goers happy with mama’s perfectly filling and absolutely refreshing tostada recipe. Oh, and tamales. SO delish!

10. The kept spirits high. The gin and all-natural Bruce Cost Ginger Ale cocktail and Central Pickling and Journeyman Distillery picklebacks stole the show.

11. They made sure it was fun for everyone. Leah Ball provided so much pretty and Fotio kept smiles bright all day long.

And just like mom, the Dosers, as they always do, made the magic happen, all day, everyday.
Not to mention that A Muse made sure everyone wore flowers in their hair!

See you next month for our 2nd birthday party — we’re turning it up to 11 for our celebration, with two levels of serious indoor-outdoor dosage.

Get Dosed on June 9 from 10am – 4pm at the River East Art Center! See you there!

Video | A Dose of Samantha Sleeper
We have a whole lot of love for Doser Samantha Sleeper – we’ve been tracking her since her very first collection.
We could go on and on about Samantha’s extraordinary talent — from her first collection being featured on the cover of WWD, to creating costumes for Baz Luhrman’s “The Great Gatsby,” to inspiring students as an instructor at her alma mater, Parsons — but her work speaks for itself. And she’s done all of that, and a whole lot more, by age 26.
We invite you to watch this video to hear from this extraordinary talent herself and see how three Chicago women wear Samantha Sleeper their way:
Thank you to Samantha for each and every elegant creation you add to our costume boxes, Jena Gambaccini and Monika Dixon for playing dress up with us, Doser Morgan Marie Beauty for bringing out the beauty in everyone, and Potluck Creative for the beautiful video.
Shop Samantha’s latest collection at DOSE, this Sunday, May 12! Get tickets at the door for $10 or $8 online, through 5/11 at noon.
For the premier of her “A Dose of” video, the W Lakeshore hosted a viewing party around and Dose created a stop-motion “runway” presentation. Instead of using live models to showcase Samantha’s latest, we looped a stop-motion video of the looks on a 6′x8′ screen for the duration of the event.
Here, Samantha Sleeper’s latest collection styled by April Francis (assisted by Manuel Castillo), with hair and makeup by Morgan Blaul, jewelry by Damen + Division c/o Sarca, and photography and video by Michael Litchfield at Potluck Creative.
The looks!

But wait! We have more. Did we mention we love Samantha’s illustrations:

That’s just a little taste. Meet this fantastic woman in person on Sunday, May 12, at Dose Market!

The sweetness at DOSE, May 12!
We did it once and we had so much fun we’re doing it again — May 12 is Mother’s Day and it’s a DOSE dedicated to the prettiest, the sweetest and the most divine. Dive in!
HOW TO DOSE MAY 12: A PRIMER
Head straight for Robin Richman and dig into the ultra-special cache she’s put together for the most fashionable ladies in the city. Cannot miss this DOSE of Robin Richman. Can. Not. Miss.
Stop by and say hello to new mama Samantha Sleeper and pick up an endlessly feminine piece from her new collection, debuting at DOSE in prints and treatments that are totally divine.

DIY@DOSE: Make it your day to be adored, crowning yourself or someone you love with a handmade floral wreath. A Muse has all the fresh flowers, greenery and inspiration to get busy!
Last month DOSE-goers showed us their creativity by making fantastic works of fun guided by the fine artists at ACRE. Stop by and admire the work (and have a fantastic laugh!) in the cafe.
Be good boys and girls and eat your breakfast: mama never said it couldn’t be a jalapeno, honey and mesquite bacon flight from Bakin’ & Eggs. Also, biscuits, gravy + fresh OJ.
Ready for a sweet? Go straight for a raspberry-rose or pistachio cream puff from Eclair Bakery & Patisserie or try the brioche filled with chocolate custard cream fit for a queen.

At the very first DOSE, Crop To Cup Coffee served up an iced horchata that has a fan base all its own. Sweet, chocolately and bright, it’s the best caffeine hit ever. And it’s back May 12.
Tea more your thing? How about a tisane? SenTEAmental Moods doses small batch summer blends for wellness rich with hibiscus, rosehips and bouquets of gorgeous blossoms.
We’re quite sure you’ll fall in love with Cursive Design‘s printed silk and brass pieces and hand-hammered, precious metal pendants from jules., customized for you right at the Market.
And we absolutely adore the delicate beauty of Up in the Air Somewhere‘s limited edition, handmade ceramics. This dishware collection is clean, modern, beautiful and sunkissed with gold leaf.

Pretty and picnic ready: double-duty is something we can’t get enough of. KraeO debuts the Odessa, a big, lightweight cotton scarf that doubles as a blanket for impromptu park visits.
And this DOSE is plentiful with all kinds of cozy. DOSE CAUSE Hand & Cloth sells cotton throws, coverlets, and silk throws made with gorgeous vintage sari cloth.
Making makeup quite elegant, Naked Elements is a premium vegan mineral cosmetics line rich in good stuff for your skin and a subtle shimmery finish that’s perfect for the summer season.
We know, we know, what is DOSE (read: life) without cheese? Baker & Nosh blend Kilgus Farms cream and buttermilk for the perfect tang with a pinch of salt to punch up the flavor.
And be ready to say “Cheese!” too. The old-timey Fotio booth lets you be the photographer, equalling all kinds of fun for lovers, families and those looking for a new Facebook profile pic.
Oh, Veruca! Can’t wait for you to try Veruca Chocolate‘s newest flavors: lavender caramels, almond-cherry and pistachio candy bars and chocolate tiles studded with Maldon sea salt.
Meet new friends by getting swooped up in a SideCar on your way to the Market. Haven’t heard? Ride-sharing is where it’s at! Download the app and ride free with code ILOVEDOSE!
Your mama’s got sauce! But seriously, she needs this, we all do, and no one can help but eat it out of the jar. All-natural, GrownUp KidStuff makes every day better. Love being a grownup!
CALLING ALL COOKS! You’ve got mad skills. Write up your masterpiece recipe at Curbside Splendor and sign it with your autograph. We’re gathering to release a very special collection.
We’ll be back with more details next week!

April 14, 2013 DOSE: Sunny Side Up!
Oh April, we know you’re all about the spring showers but we sure do appreciate your giving us a sunny Sunday! Here’s how we made the most of April’s DOSE, sunny side up:
Little and big, DOSE-goers came out in droves, ready to eat, shop, laugh, lounge and score.

Heritage Bicycles General Store kitted out a seriously awesome bike just for DOSE, built on the DOSE floor (!).

It was nothing but silliness and smiles in the Heritage Littles Corner, thanks to Melissa of A Little Photo Studio. Check out the full album of the cool kids here!

Whatever your drink — spirits, spritzer or good old H2O — there was something for everyone to sip on at this DOSE compliments of Oliver Winery, Femme du Coupe and Next Star Vodka.

Beauty Dosers Lovebomb Lacquer and Morgan Marie Beauty painted our lips and nails in the latest shades of Spring.

We all rocked out to the musical stylings of The Haute Closet and signed up for monthly vinyl delivery fromt the uber-curators of Vinyl Me, Please.

We scored new Spring gear from the sartorial savants at Vividbraille and Sir & Madame. Don’t miss this month’s A DOSE OF video, featuring both!

We delighted in Chef Thai’s spring rolls, tamarind ribs, papaya salad and coconut lemonade — get another DOSE anytime at Embeya!

How could anyone resist a Très Awesome Events photo op with fabulous floral crowns and accessories?

Speaking of adornments, The River East Art Center was ablaze with the light reflecting off all the sparkle from Dorus Mhor, Winifred Grace, Chikahisa Studio, Laura Lombardi and Toki – who else saw the DOSE rainbow?

Exploring Remi Canarie‘s first collection was like stepping inside a seashell. The colors, tailored jackets, louche knit pants: we’re 100% smitten and can’t wait for the next collection.

AP and NOV made sure our vintage quota was met with gusto — bold prints and statement accessories galore/

FoundRe: is the perfect place to find homes for our unframed art.

Walnut Cardamon cookies from Malika at ByMdesserts made for a sweet mid-shopping snack.

As did Très Jolie Pâtisserie — we scored big time with these 7th Inning Stretch cupcakes — Brown Butter Cake with Salted Caramel Buttercream and Peanut Crackerjack Crunch. Home run, hands down.

After the 7th Inning Stretch it was time to make one more lap around DOSE. Spotted: Janelle Gramling Designs adorable porcelain tabletop air planters

ACRE let us explore our inner storyteller. The works of art created at this DOSE are so good we just have to share — they’ll be on display at DOSE May 12!

The best thing about DOSE is that it’s all good! We appreciate that you make it your business to join us and our incredible Dosers every month.

Next DOSE we’ve got a whole new slew of Dosers ready to make mama proud — see you May 12!
