Video | A Dose of Samantha Sleeper
We have a whole lot of love for Doser Samantha Sleeper – we’ve been tracking her since her very first collection.
We could go on and on about Samantha’s extraordinary talent — from her first collection being featured on the cover of WWD, to creating costumes for Baz Luhrman’s “The Great Gatsby,” to inspiring students as an instructor at her alma mater, Parsons — but her work speaks for itself. And she’s done all of that, and a whole lot more, by age 26.
We invite you to watch this video to hear from this extraordinary talent herself and see how three Chicago women wear Samantha Sleeper their way:
Thank you to Samantha for each and every elegant creation you add to our costume boxes, Jena Gambaccini and Monika Dixon for playing dress up with us, Doser Morgan Marie Beauty for bringing out the beauty in everyone, and Potluck Creative for the beautiful video.
Shop Samantha’s latest collection at DOSE, this Sunday, May 12! Get tickets at the door for $10 or $8 online, through 5/11 at noon.
For the premier of her “A Dose of” video, the W Lakeshore hosted a viewing party around and Dose created a stop-motion “runway” presentation. Instead of using live models to showcase Samantha’s latest, we looped a stop-motion video of the looks on a 6′x8′ screen for the duration of the event.
Here, Samantha Sleeper’s latest collection styled by April Francis (assisted by Manuel Castillo), with hair and makeup by Morgan Blaul, jewelry by Damen + Division c/o Sarca, and photography and video by Michael Litchfield at Potluck Creative.
The looks!

But wait! We have more. Did we mention we love Samantha’s illustrations:

That’s just a little taste. Meet this fantastic woman in person on Sunday, May 12, at Dose Market!

Dose Cause: Hand & Cloth

Hand & Cloth is the perfect embodiment of a Dose cause. Based in Chicago, the nonprofit org offers employment and leadership skills to women in Bangladesh and sustains itself by selling their hand-stitched kantha blankets online and in select boutiques.

Not only is Hand & Cloth’s mission admirable. The two-sided blankets are drop-dead gorgeous and one-of-a-kind.

Perfect for snuggling, building a fort or even an impromptu picnic, these blankets are ridiculously affordable, starting around $100 each. Grab one for yourself — and one for mom — at Dose on May 12!

April 14, 2013 DOSE: Sunny Side Up!
Oh April, we know you’re all about the spring showers but we sure do appreciate your giving us a sunny Sunday! Here’s how we made the most of April’s DOSE, sunny side up:
Little and big, DOSE-goers came out in droves, ready to eat, shop, laugh, lounge and score.

Heritage Bicycles General Store kitted out a seriously awesome bike just for DOSE, built on the DOSE floor (!).

It was nothing but silliness and smiles in the Heritage Littles Corner, thanks to Melissa of A Little Photo Studio. Check out the full album of the cool kids here!

Whatever your drink — spirits, spritzer or good old H2O — there was something for everyone to sip on at this DOSE compliments of Oliver Winery, Femme du Coupe and Next Star Vodka.

Beauty Dosers Lovebomb Lacquer and Morgan Marie Beauty painted our lips and nails in the latest shades of Spring.

We all rocked out to the musical stylings of The Haute Closet and signed up for monthly vinyl delivery fromt the uber-curators of Vinyl Me, Please.

We scored new Spring gear from the sartorial savants at Vividbraille and Sir & Madame. Don’t miss this month’s A DOSE OF video, featuring both!

We delighted in Chef Thai’s spring rolls, tamarind ribs, papaya salad and coconut lemonade — get another DOSE anytime at Embeya!

How could anyone resist a Très Awesome Events photo op with fabulous floral crowns and accessories?

Speaking of adornments, The River East Art Center was ablaze with the light reflecting off all the sparkle from Dorus Mhor, Winifred Grace, Chikahisa Studio, Laura Lombardi and Toki – who else saw the DOSE rainbow?

Exploring Remi Canarie‘s first collection was like stepping inside a seashell. The colors, tailored jackets, louche knit pants: we’re 100% smitten and can’t wait for the next collection.

AP and NOV made sure our vintage quota was met with gusto — bold prints and statement accessories galore/

FoundRe: is the perfect place to find homes for our unframed art.

Walnut Cardamon cookies from Malika at ByMdesserts made for a sweet mid-shopping snack.

As did Très Jolie Pâtisserie — we scored big time with these 7th Inning Stretch cupcakes — Brown Butter Cake with Salted Caramel Buttercream and Peanut Crackerjack Crunch. Home run, hands down.

After the 7th Inning Stretch it was time to make one more lap around DOSE. Spotted: Janelle Gramling Designs adorable porcelain tabletop air planters

ACRE let us explore our inner storyteller. The works of art created at this DOSE are so good we just have to share — they’ll be on display at DOSE May 12!

The best thing about DOSE is that it’s all good! We appreciate that you make it your business to join us and our incredible Dosers every month.

Next DOSE we’ve got a whole new slew of Dosers ready to make mama proud — see you May 12!

Taking Stock
There is a whole lot of awesome going down at Stock Mfg. Co., and we’re pretty darn excited to have these gents make their Dose debut on Sunday. These guys throw all their love and energy into championing domestic, hand-crafted, quality clothing and make it happen right here in Chicago. Here’s a look into their Near West Side factory:
The name Stock Mfg. Co. harkens back to the days of the Union Stockyards in Chicago. For over 100 years the stockyards employed thousands of Chicagoans and put our great city on the world map as a hub for agriculture and industry — Stock Mfg. Co. is all about bringing that American-made spirit back.
90% of what is made in the factory is actually military uniforms and police academy wear — which under law must be produced domestically (hat tip, lawmakers!).
Next stop for Stock? They’re launching their &Stock line featuring emerging local designers looking to have their goods produced here in Chicago. &Stock is based around a kick-starter type model: independent designers submit designs, the public votes on which ones they want produced by buying in on pre-sale, then if it’s successful, they’ll be produced in Stock Mfg. Co.’s factory here in Chicago. Now that’s cool.
Meet the guys and check out their own line of Chicago-made menswear this Sunday at HoliDose!
